What is a Secondary / Remnant Offers?
Typically, there are two options for Secondary / Remnant offers:
1) is a recommendation that is made to the user during the installation process but after the initial Toolbar offer (i.e. the Secondary Offer)
2) the software determines whether the user already has the Toolbar installed, it then recommends the alternate software in the primary spot during the installation process (i.e. a Remnant Offer).
Why recommend a Secondary / Remnant Offer?
Toolbar Penetration is becoming saturated
According to SearchEngineWatch.com, 11% of searches originate from a toolbar – which adds up to over 500 million toolbar searches per month. This means that 11% of the internet population already uses a toolbar so alternate methods are needed to maximize revenue.
Better product / brand fit
Many software publishers are looking for distribution channels, in particular in their target market. Subsequently, this means a better brand association for both parties and ultimately a better long-term ROI for all parties. It also allows software publishers a chance to recommend products which they like!
